$100K to be Raised in Fundraiser Series
OAKLAND, CA – Mayor Ron Dellums, Congresswoman Barbara Lee CA-09, D’Wayne Wiggins of the R&B music group Tony Toni Tone and other community organizations, elected officials and musicians will help organize a concert and series of fundraising events to raise $100K in one week towards Haiti’s earthquake relief efforts.
“When the human family witnesses a loss of life on such a large scale, the responsibility to support recovery efforts is vitally important. This concert is one way Bay Area residents can help provide critical supplies and resources to the people of Haiti,” said Mayor Dellums.
“Both here in the Bay Area and across the nation, citizens are galvanizing support in response to this disaster,” said Congresswoman Lee. “I am moved and proud to see that Oakland is joining in this massive international effort to provide relief and support for the people of Haiti.”
Other musical groups who will be in attendance include: Lenny Williams, Too Short, Erk Tha Jerk, E-40, The Pop Lyfe youth musical ensemble, and the Oakland Interfaith Choir. All proceeds from the tour will be donated directly to earthquake efforts. “This is one of the most devastating earthquakes in modern times. We have to come together in solidarity and lead by example. I decided to offer proceeds from my upcoming “House Party Tour of Relief” in support of Haiti,” said Wiggins.
Hosted by Bay Area media personality Renel, Lady Ray of KMEL 106.1 and comedian Luenell, the artist line-up is growing fast as Wiggins continues appealing to his fellow colleagues.
Oakland City Councilmembers Larry Reid, Desley Brooks and Rebecca Kaplan, Richmond City Councilmembers Jim Rogers and Tom Butt have pledged their support. Community and media organizations involved in the effort include Black Women Organized for Political Action BWOPA, Oakland's Next Leaders, Get Screened Oakland, AFACT, Inc., Full Vision Arts Foundation, OaklandSeen.com, OaklandLocal.com, Fusicology and the Oakland Arts and Culture Commission.
Haiti Emergency Relief Fund HERF founder Walter Riley, Esq. and Haiti Action Committee founder Pierre Labossiere will be in attendance to provide remarks during the program.
