Swank Audio Visuals
Oakland Convention Center is proud to have Swank Audio Visuals as our audio-visual services provider. Since 1937 Swank has offered unparalleled service for special events, conventions and business meetings across the nation. With the largest inventory of state-of-the-art equipment and professional technicians available to assist in any capacity, your next event will be a success.
Audio-Visual Service Guidelines
Although Swank is our in-house audio-visual service provider, you may choose another company; however, in order to ensure a successful event there are a few guidelines that must be met in order for an outside vendor to be used. Depending upon the situation this may include, but not be limited to, the following.
Outside Vendor Service Guidelines Include:
- For your protection and the Convention Center's a certificate of insurance holding the Convention Center, its employees and guests harmless if any incident involving audio-visual equipment or of that company’s employees, covering liability of at least $2 million per occurrence, plus umbrella coverage of at least $2 million.
- Because Swank Audio Visuals provides the state-of-the-art equipment built into many of our convention/meeting areas, a facility usage fee to cover the costs of equipment patch-in and utilities used by your audio-visual company may be charged. Please contact Swank Audio Visuals for such charges.
- A House Technician will be assigned for the duration of your program to facilitate house systems integration. Billing will be calculated according to prevailing rates based on daily rate minimums. The House Technician functions as an extension of the Convention Center's staff.
- Any storage of audio-visual equipment will be subject to availability and the Convention Center's current room rental charges.
- Nothing is to be hung from the walls or any Convention Center structure. All rigging performed within the meeting space will be designed per specification, as approved by Swank Audio Visuals in accordance with the Marriott Engineering Department’s Safety Standards. Under no circumstance will entry to any ceilings be granted to any person. Proposed hang points must be submitted to Swank Audio Visuals at least 10 business days prior to load-in of event.
- A complete schedule of events including load-in/load-out times of audio support exceeding speech reproduction, loading dock usage, power tie-in/disconnect schedule and darkroom schedules are mandatory.
- Charges will be incurred for any electrical usage requirements provided by the Convention Center.

Outside Vendor Fees
Swank Audio Visuals functions as an extension of the Convention Center's staff, and their ability to work in coordination with other departments will ensure a successful event. They are also required to be on site and accessible for any last minute needs or emergency support. Should a guest consider bringing in outside audio-visual equipment or an outside audio-visual vendor, a 20 percent fee of the prevailing rental price for similar equipment available from Swank Audio Visuals may be charged. This fee covers the costs of the Convention Center's on-site audio-visual technicians to be available. Should Swank Audio Visuals be utilized in an appropriate capacity or support role, consideration will be given to waiving or reducing this fee.
